Thomas Black, 81, of Grove City, formerly of Slidell, LA., passed away October 10, 2007. He was born June 14, 1926 in Cloughskelt, North Ireland. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Bella Black and brothers, James and Robert Black. Thomas is survived by his loving wife, Doris; children, Patricia A. (Gary) Boggs, Jackie L. (Terry) Curtis, Sandra K. (George) Spohn, Thomas W. (Cristol) Black, Sharon B. (Danny) Mason; grandchildren, James T. and Jacob M. Spohn, Christian C. and Lauren E.L. Curtis, Eli D., Chelsi M. and Levi T. Mason; sisters, Peggy Watkins, Elizabeth Jeanette Burns and brothers, Norman and David Black. Thomas attended Trinity College in Tampa, FL. and the Bible Institute of Pennsylvania. For 50 years he ministered churches in New York, Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, Ohio, Michigan, West Virginia and Louisiana. Thomas was a member of the American Baptist Churches USA. He was a veteran of the US Navy, where he was a Seaman Second Class and served during World War II (1 yr., 6 mos., 12 days and 16 hrs.) and a member of the American Legion. Visitation will be held 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00PM Sunday, October 14, 2007 at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Chapel, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, Ohio. Funeral services will be held 1:00PM Monday, October 15, 2007 at The First Baptist Church of Grove City, 2730 Kingston Ave., Grove City, Ohio. Dr. Jerry Neal, Pastor Gary Boggs, Pastor Tom Black and Pastor Bud Mulford will be officiating with interment at Concord Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made the Thomas Black Memorial Fund, in care of First Baptist Church, 6533 Tipp-Cowlesville Rd., Tipp City, Ohio 45371.
