Thomas Madison Boyles, aged 80, passed away on Thursday, June 16th, 2022 at his home in Columbus, Ohio due to heart failure. He will be deeply missed by his wife and family.
Tom was born September 15th, 1941 to Malcolm and Philomena (Martello) Boyles in Columbus, Ohio where he remained a lifelong resident. He was baptized at Saint John the Baptist Church and attended both Starling Junior High School and Central High School. For the first 24 years of his working life, he was employed as a roofer and then later was employed at the Wonder Bread Bakery factory on 4th street for 12 years before his retirement.
Tom was known by all to be hard-working, generous, and generally quiet and reserved. He devoted his life to the care of his family which he loved dearly. Without hesitation, he was present to provide a helping hand whenever requested. He was also known to tease others with lighthearted jokes and warm, inviting laughter. For many years he was a member of the bowling league at Great Western (now the RollHouse) on the corner of Georgesville Road and Sullivant Avenue. Tom had a life-long love of animals. He owned several beloved dogs, was a successful breeder of purebred Yorkshire Terriers, and cared for his Blue-Fronted Amazon Parrot, Nicki, for over 30 years. Tom was proud to have taught Nicki how to talk but, being surrounded by so many dogs throughout her life, she often just barked. Tom also enjoyed fishing, travelling, visiting many casinos throughout the country, and competing at car shows with his 1951 Ford Custom. Tom was a devoted Buckeye, routinely dressing in scarlet and grey, he never missed an Ohio State football game or the Ohio State Fair. At home, he enjoyed watching boxing, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), professional wrestling, and any type of mixed martial art or western movie. His favorite sit-com was Sanford and Son.
Tom leaves behind his beloved wife, Marlena Boyles (Hallis), of 24 years. They met in 1992 as coworkers at Wonder Bread Bakery and fell in love shortly after. He also leaves behind 2 siblings, 7 children, 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a lifelong friend, Harold Bocook. His siblings include Joseph and Connie (Hinkle), James and Tessie, Homer Bolen and Wanda (Crum), Richard Bolen and Jackie, Mary and Mark Grube, Ruth and Joe Lager, Caroline and Ronnie Brady, Margaret and Leonard Cline, Lucille (Bolen) and Ralph Wimer, and Phyllis Bolen. Tom was preceded in death by all his siblings except Lucille and Phyllis. His children include Patricia Boyles, Tommy Boyles, Johnie and Missy Boyles, Sharon Boyles, Raymond Boyles, Robert Thompson, and Theresa and Douglas Nicholson.
