Thursie M. Bates, age 80, passed away surrounded by her family and loved ones on January 16, 2021. She was born on December 23, 1940 in Raccoon, Kentucky to the late John D. and Hettie Worrix. Thursie was a member of the Columbus Primitive Baptist Church. Family and friends were very important to her in her life. She also enjoyed taking nature walks with her husband, Jim.
She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings: Lola Barney, John Worrix, William Grant Worrix, Bradley Worrix, Bobby Worrix, and Arthur Worrix.
Thursie is survived by her husband of 61 years, James "Jim" C. Bates Sr.; Daughters: Diana (Paul) Cordle, Penny (Mark) Walter, and son, James (Laura) Bates II. She is also survived by siblings: Polly "Betty" Pierce, Harold (Pat) Worrix, Lonnie Worrix, Mary "Evelyn" Worrix, Alice (Mike) Richardson, Leah (Dan) Ewald, and Loretta (Dave) Bradley; grandchildren: Adam, Amanda, Jessica, Justine, Kristina, Stacy, Chelsea, David, and James; great grandchildren:Emma, Zachary, Connor, Leah, Theodore, Meira, and Emmett; along with many other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 24, 2021 from 1 to 5 PM at Newcomer Southwest Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 5 PM, Minister Roger Blackburn and Greg Moore officiating. A graveside service will take place at Mt. Zion Cemetery in McArthur, Ohio at 11am on Monday, January 25, 2021. There will be no formal procession to the cemetery.
