Tinya Gwen Faye Cherney

Tinya Gwen Fraley Cherney, 83, of Powell, passed away June 8, 2023.

Tinya was born on April 1, 1940 in Spanglin, KY to Andy Fraley and Mozelle (Pennington) Fraley. Her family moved to Sabina, Ohio where she graduated from high school in 1957. She later attended cosmetology school in Columbus, Ohio. Tinya owned multiple beauty salons starting in Las Vegas and one in Columbus. She studied pastoral studies and psychology at Lee College in Tennessee as well.

She married Dr. Lee Cherney in 1976 in Columbus, Ohio. Tinya spent a lot of time traveling and evangelizing. Six years of her life were spent in Florida, 13 years in Arlington Hts., IL (near Chicago), and 2 years in Raleigh, North Carolina. She then moved back to Columbus where she spent the past 23 years with her husband.

She was very active in various PTAs. She served as the Hospitality Director for several years in one of them. She spent two years as a building contractor before retiring. Her company, JTL Construction, Inc., built 12 luxury homes in the Columbus Area.

Tinya was proceeded in death by her parents as well as her brothers: Roger, Andy and John.

Tinya will be deeply missed by her husband of 47 years, Lee; her sons, Daniel (Leanne) and Jesse (Heather); sister, Gaynell Livacich, and grandson, David.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, June 24, 2023, from 1:30 pm until the time of service at 3 pm at Newcomer NW Chapel, 10051 Brewster Lane, Powell, Ohio 43065.

There will be an informal gathering at 4:45, after the service, location TBD.
