Tommie Lee Folks

March 17, 1930 — September 19, 2024

Columbus

Tommie was born in Valdosta, Georgia on March 17, 1930. She died on Thursday, September 19, 2024 in Hospice care at her daughter’s home. She was 94 years old. Her father, the late Mr. Turner Johnson and her mother, Mary Molly Johnson had five children, Tommie was the only girl of four brothers. Three have proceeded her in death. Edgar, Turner Johnson, Jr., and Richard Harrell. She has one brother, John L. Johnson in Detroit, Michigan.

Tommie was raised a Christian and she loved reading the bible. On any given day it was not surprising to stop by her house and find her sitting in her favorite chair reading her bible and drinking a cup of coffee. She loved to talk about the bible to anyone who would listen. Tommie loved to go to bible study at her church on Wednesdays. When she was able, she would use her walker and go to bible study at the assisted living every Tuesday. She also studied the bible on and off for many years with Jehovah’s Witnesses. She attended a bible study group with the witnesses at the Alpine Nursing Home where she lived and met Brother Kent Heisley, who conducted the study. When she visited the Kingdom Hall, she would let everyone know out loud that she knew him and would say “I know that brother he studied the bible with me!”. Before her death she would listen in to the meetings on Thursday nights on Zoom with her daughter, Vinna.

Tommie loved her grandchildren. She was a very friendly and outgoing person and loved to talk to strangers. So, you had to just accept the fact if you went anywhere with Tommie, she was going to stop and talk to someone she didn’t know. At the grocery store, the movies, on the street, where ever, she was going to stop and talk to strangers. The conversations would go past just saying “Hi, how are you?” Especially if they had children. She would want to know their name; how old they were and so forth. You literally had to pull her away.

Tommie loved to be with family and friends, to play cards and board games. She played often with her grandkids. She had a beautiful smile and laugh; and would always say something that would make you laugh. She was a kind, meek and lovable person.

Tommie and her late husband, Hubert Snead, Sr., had five children; son, Charles Johnson [Deceased] (Patricia) had two sons, Aaron (Donielle) Johnson and Adam (Nikki) Johnson; daughter, Marilyn (Jim) Mullins [Deceased] had two daughters, Shana and Keysia Snead; son, Hubert Snead Jr. (Linda) have two children, Shawn (Nikki) Snead and Ewuniki Snead; son, William Roger Snead (Janice) have one son, Nathan (Marissa) Snead; and Vinna (Paul) Gardner [Deceased], have four girls Tina (Lorenzo) Cates, Paula (Edward) Beatty, Paulina (James) Manuel and Sharina (Carlos) Head.

Tommie has a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She also has many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. She would tell them all, they were her favorite.

Tommie was truly loved by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
