Valerie Ann (Bennett) Cornelius, age 84, passed away quietly in her home in Columbus, OH on Oct. 17. Valerie left her native Rochester, NY at age 13 to move to Toledo with her beloved grandmother Anna. She graduated from St. Ursula Academy and later, married and raised a family, as well as worked in the 1970s as secretary at Rosary Cathedral parish before moving to a position with Lucas County Children's Services. Beyond Rochester and Toledo, she also called Lake Pleasant, MI, and several places in Florida, home in later years.
Valerie was an avid NASCAR fan, particularly of her favorite driver, Mark Martin. She liked to visit casinos and was never shy to play the slots. She was a sweet and good friend to many, and her infectious laugh will be remembered by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Connie; and second husband, Don. She is survived by sisters Ann (Don) Scott and Sandy Wurzer; brother Don (Kay) Baker; children Tammy Mor, Tim Beard and Jim Beard; grandchildren Cory, Erik, Leeot, Shawn; and great-grandson, Jackson.
As she will be returned to Rochester for burial, there will be no local services. The Newcomer Family is honored to serve the Cornelius family. To leave a condolence, or to share a memory please visit the tribute section.
