Valerie Jean Schaub, 65, of Columbus passed away surrounded by her family on Wednesday, March 2, 2022. She was born July 31, 1956, to the late Laud Poe Jr. and LaDonna Lee Poe (Vance), one of eight children. She graduated from Marion-Franklin High School in 1974.
Valerie worked 20 years dedicated to the healthcare field. From 1990 to 1994 she worked at The Ohio State University College of Optometry, and from there she moved on to VSP, where she would remain until 2010.
Valerie was always very family oriented. Along with raising her four children and many grandchildren, she was also active in her community. She served on the board of directors of the Southside Learning and Development Center for over 15 years. Although she was working full time and raising her family, Valerie's lifelong dream was to go back to school. She graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in business communications from the Ohio Dominican University in 2005.
Valerie was everyone's biggest supporter and cheerleader; no matter the game, she was there cheering loudly and proudly. Be it tee-ball, soccer, high school baseball or even traveling summer leagues, she would be there with bells on. And of course she would want everyone to know how much she loved her Buckeyes when Saturday came around.
Valerie is preceded in death by her parents, Laud and LaDonna Poe, and her brother, Steven Poe. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Martin Schaub; children David (Leyla) Kirk, LaDonna Kirk, Rachel (Tyler) Mahle, Phillip (Stephanie) Schaub, Stephen KIrk, Victoria Morales, and Pablo Morales; 17 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She is also survived and missed by numerous friends and neighborhood kids to whom she was also mom/grandma.
