Virgil M. Judd

February 4, 1943 — January 23, 2025

Virgil Judd, 81 yrs old of Columbus, Ohio passed away January 23, 2025 @8am at home as he wanted. He had his children Daniel, Melissa, Damion, Chuck, Tony, Joanna, Cecelia, and several grandchildren at his side in his last days.

Virgil was born on February 4, 1943 in Inez, KY, to Lenard and Esta Judd.

Virgil was preceded in death by his mom and dad, his loving daughter Teresa Judd (Golsby), his wife Linda Judd, and his siblings James Lenard Judd, Betty McCoy (Judd), Harold Judd, Arnold Judd, Ruby Gund (Judd), and special nephews Paul Judd and Joseph Judd.

Virgil will be missed by his Children Charles Judd, Anthony Judd, Daniel Judd, Damion (Mindy) Judd, Melissa Judd, and Joanna (Gaston) Navarro, Cecelia (Bob) Summers, and Bob (Elaina) Ray; Along with 46 truly adored grandchildren, and his siblings, Wilma Lee Judd, Daryl Judd, Mamie Judd, and Judy Benner.

Virgil was most happy with his kids and family. The fondest memories of our dad is just sitting around with him laughing and listening to stories. How Chuck and Tone would get into mischief as boys and dad would get the punishment; he’d say momma didn’t like that he just laughed so he was in the dog house too. He loved playing poker which he passed onto the boys for sure, and playing Chess which only Mara could withstand the weekly defeats on. He loved to cook, but sure enjoyed Joanna’s biscuits and gravy and Teresa’s fried fish. He got a kick out of instigating Dan and Dame at teasing Liss until she’d fire her own ornery comeback and they’d go rounds laughing for literally hours; And when Chuck was there too it was a grand scheme of chaotic laughs.

He had many special times with the grandkids, who each and every one has their own special memories of their Papaw. From the daily check in with papaw from Day or Yana and Chance, to that big ole smile that visits from Maria or Kristin would put on his face. He loved how Mara actually thought she was a challenge for him when he handed her those chess game whoopens every sunday. He knew that all the grandboys were in the next room at any time. He chuckled often at how lil Damie or Diamond Danika and Dyl were as mischievous as their Dad’s were as kids. The youngsters knew where to go for the treats, and the older kids knew papaw was around any time they needed a good laugh. Of the very few memories mentioned here, the memories of ole Pappy will be a lifelong smile in all the kids’ hearts.

He often shared stories about his younger days with his own siblings, especially Uncle Daryl who was at our dad’s side to his last days. He always said Daryl, who’s birthday was one day after our dad’s, was his birthday gift. He said they were partners in everything, there wasn’t an adventure or mischief they got into without the other. We had many celebrations with uncle Daryl and the cousins as well. Our family can attest, they were indeed partners, and mischievous, and it was always a great time!

He cherished his family and his children. If you asked all his kids you may get different versions but the same description overall of our papa. One may say his best attributes were his cold sense of humor and sincere compassion for everyone; leaving cherished memories in all who were blessed to know him. One may say our dad was always the one to lighten the mood and make you laugh. One may say He was a funny guy period and he was so strong with all that he carried for so many, and he never complained about it. One may say he loved us in his own way and was there to help anytime he could. Some of the kids may say nothing at all just knowing all that our dad was without trying to put it into just a few words. But we’d all say, our dad was everything good to the family and was stone cold when he was well. As we watched his health degrade, he continued to share laughs and joy with us. He was a gentle loving man who didn’t deserve to suffer as in the end. And so, as much as we will all miss him greatly, we are at peace knowing he is now in peace as well.
