Virgil L. Murphy, age 87, passed away on January 13, 2022. He was born on May 2, 1934 to the late Arthur and Nancy Murphy in Oppy, Kentucky.
Virgil was also preceded in death by his wife, Carol D. Murphy; son, Ronald E. Murphy; siblings, Clarence Murphy and Ettie West. He is survived by his children, Rick L. (Debbie) Murphy, Karen L. Murphy, Sharon K. (Chris) Hildenbrand, Randy A. (Christy) Murphy; daughter-in-law, Paula Anderson; siblings, June Lemaster, Ruby (Ray) Cook, Lorene (Chuck) Ball, Bobby (Arlene) Murphy, Rose Daily; grandchildren, Rebekah Dunwoody, Christina Kennedy, Jeffrey Daniels, Brian Daniels, Kevin Daniels, Dustin Hildenbrand, Mystique Barker, Ronny Murphy, Jennifer Verhoff, Madison Mayberry, Joshua Murphy; 17 great-grandchildren.
Virgil graduated from Warfield High School in 1952. He served in the US Army from 1954-1957. Virgil was a Factory worker at Westinghouse and Capitol Manufacturing. After retirement he worked security at Diamond Innovations. Virgil played the fiddle, guitar, steel guitar and banjo in various Bluegrass and Southern Gospel bands throughout his life.
The visitation will be on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 from 2-4:00 p.m. and 6-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer-SW Chapel, 3393 Broadway in Grove City, Ohio 43123. The Funeral Service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday followed by procession to Fernwood Cemetery.
