Virginia Lee Byrd Rhodebeck

August 9, 1950 — September 23, 2022

"All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely Players; They have their exits and their entrances, and one woman in her time plays many parts."

Virginia Lee Byrd Rhodebeck passed away peacefully on September 23rd, 2022. A northeast Ohio native, Virginia was born in Akron on August 9th, 1950 to Joseph and Wilda (Hurd) Byrd. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Larry; children Andrew, Abigail (Brad), and Jeffrey (Kellie); grandchildren Sydney and Max Rhodebeck; sister Melanie Byrd (John) Dunn; brothers-in-law Dan (Janet) and Jim, and bonus sister Pam (Terry) Hughes.

Virginia was a graduate of Kent State University where she studied music education and literature. Her mid-life crisis resulted in becoming a graduate from Capital University's Law School paralegal program. This led to a career with the Columbus City Prosecutor's Office as an advocate for victims of domestic violence. Advocacy ran in her blood. Virginia served on a task force to create the Ohio Early Intervention program under Governor Voinovich which identifies children with disabilities and directs them to services.

She was an accomplished pianist who won the heart of her husband by playing Bach preludes and fugues. He won her heart by helping her with chemistry homework. She could not stop herself from buying plants, shoes, books, and basically anything for her grandkids. She found peace working in her garden, was fond of bird watching, and frequented art museums

She was a mother to twins who took every possible opportunity to make her roll her eyes. She still doesn't know who flushed the boat down the toilet that fateful Saturday. She's incredibly proud of her oldest son, Andrew.

She is preceded in death by her daughter Erin, parents, her best friend and mother-in-law Doris (Robert) Rhodebeck, cousins Richard Kight, Margaret Kight-Stricklen; great-aunt and mentor, Leota McKenzie, and dear friend Paula Dalton.

No amount of time with her would have ever been enough, but her laugh, smile, and quick wit will live on in her loved ones.

Virginia requested a party and a party she shall have (we'll let you know). In the meantime, water your plants, eat some dark chocolate (it's a health food), and think of the fond memories you had with our sweet Virginia.
