Walter F. Copley Jr., 82 of Hilliard, Ohio passed from this earth to his heavenly home on January 14, 2021 at Doctors West Hospital. Walter (Frank) was born on June 2, 1938 in Chattaroy, West Virginia to Walter F. Copley Sr. and Mary S. (Hale) Copley. Frank proudly worked for General Motors in Columbus, Ohio and retired after 27 years with the company. He was preceded in death by his son Terry Copley and his granddaughter Sophia Margiotta.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, JoAnn Copley; brother John Copley (Freda) of Williamson, West Virginia; daughters Elaine Purcell (Doug) of Grove City, Ohio and Melissa Margiotta (Guy) of Dublin, Ohio; son Mitch Copley of Galloway, Ohio; grandchildren Michelle Purcell, Christina Purcell, Doug Purcell, and Gianna Margiotta-McCoy (Justin); 5 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.
Frank had a firm foundation with his family and his faith. Always our Mr. fix-it, he loved to garden and enjoyed hunting for that perfect item to add to his many collections.
He loved to travel and visit "The Home Place," where he could tinker and repair what needed to be fixed. He enjoyed family reunions and church events at "The Home place," where he could catch up and visit with his family and friends.
Frank loved his Kentucky Wildcats, and we'd catch him in his recliner watching and rooting on the team. He was an avid gardener and spent many hours and days canning vegetables with his wife, Jo. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren could not wait to see which festive outfit he would wear for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and family get-togethers; how he built mega blanket forts using PVC pipes and strategically-placed kitchen chairs; and how he told funny stories and corny jokes.
He was devoted to his church, and found great joy being a preacher for the Northern New Home Church.
Above all, spending time with family and friends made him the happiest. The loss of his son Terry and granddaughter Sophia had a tremendous effect on our family. Through his continuous love, support, and strength he drew the family closer during these dark times.
We are blessed that God chose us to be his family, and give us 82 wonderful years to be with him. His unique sprit and loving ways will be forever missed by all who knew him.
A small private funeral will take place on January 29, 2021. In addition, a larger celebration of life will be scheduled for friends and family later this year.
In lieu of flowers, Jo has asked for donations to be made to the Sophia Rose Margiotta Foundation, Inc. at https://srmargiottafoundation.wordpress.com
