Wayne W. Bettin

March 12, 1931 — July 11, 2022

Wayne Waldo Bettin, age 91, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2022, at StoryPoint in Grove City, Ohio. He was born on March 12, 1931 to Roy and Edna (Kraft) Bettin in the small town of Lakefield, Minnesota. Wayne grew up working part-time in the family-owned "Bettin Hardware" store, and graduated from Lakefield High School. He obtained his degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota, graduating third in his engineering class of fifty.

Following graduation, Wayne and his wife Joanne (Whaley) Bettin, moved to Columbus, Ohio to accept a job at North American Aviation (Rockwell). He later worked as a civil engineer with A. E. Stilson and Associates. His photography hobby that began in junior high school, continued to grow over the years, eventually becoming his full-time profession under the name Enway Photography, specializing in portraits, weddings, and commercial construction where his engineering background was an asset to developers and contractors. Wayne furthered his education to obtain a pilot's license with commercial and instrument ratings, and bought a small airplane that allowed him to incorporate aerial photography into his business. He also utilized the plane for memorable family trips.

Wayne's background in engineering overlapped to his hobbies, including designing railroad layouts for his model trains; building of radio-controlled airplanes with intricate designs to incorporate cameras for aerial photography, and designing a leverage system for lowering and raising Martin bird houses without disturbing the nests inside.

Wayne's faith was his foundation for living. Bible study was part of his daily life, individually and in groups. Over the years, he volunteered and held a variety of positions at his church, Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he was a member since coming to Columbus in 1954.

Wayne was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Joanne Bettin, in February 2022. He is survived by their children Ron (Kathy) Bettin, Dawn (Carl) Scheiderer, Jay (Debbie) Bettin, and Jana (Joe) Braughton; grandchildren Ben (Dr. Carrie) Bettin, Dr. Clayton (Dr. Kristen) Bettin, Megan (Kirby) Ayers, Kara (Jason) Pollo, Brooke (Ryan) Rausch, Jonathan (Amanda) Bettin, Austin (Brittany) Bettin, Lauren (William) Stump, Caleb (Ashley) Braughton, Joran (Allie) Braughton, and Hannah (Spenser) Foley; great-grandchildren Alyssa, Sawyer, Silas, and Aria Bettin, Henley, Mila, and Kyler Ayers, Peyton and Ava Pollo, Clara and Audrey Bettin, Owen, Addie, and Emma Bettin, William, Lincoln, and Lilly Stump, Thatcher Braughton, Josiah, Titus, and Liza Braughton; and Wayne's brother Roger Bettin. He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Edna Bettin.
