Wendell H. Williamson Sr.

Wendell H Williamson, 85, of Columbus passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 19, 2024. He was born on July 9, 1938 in Pike County, KY to the late Emzy and Alice Blackburn Williamson. He was one of ten children Curtis, Beatrice, James, Calista, Dyke, Vergil, Ora, Tom, and Gary Joe. and lived to be the last remaining son of this Williamson generation.

As a young adult, he moved to the big city of Columbus and got a job setting pins in a bowling alley. There he met the love of his life, Sue McKinzie, and they were married on September 5, 1959. Together they had four adoring children: Julie, Sherri, Wendell Jr, and Keith. He and Sue were later blessed with grandchildren Josh (Angie) and Adam and then further blessed with great-grandchildren CJ, Joshie, Morgan, Lyla, and Hannah.

Wendell was a gentle, kind man who loved helping others. He could fix or make anything and so many people were lucky recipients of his generosity--especially items from his bountiful garden and bottles of his homemade wine. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved the Cincinnati Reds and University of KY basketball. He liked bluegrass and country music, collecting coins, going to the casino but most of all he loved his family. Together, they enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, bowling and so much more. Wendell was a true family man and if you were lucky enough to be a friend, he treated you as family.

He has joined his cherished wife Sue in Heaven. Left here on Earth with loving memories are his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sister, Ora Robinette, sisters-in-law Betty Boo, Doris, Betty, Deb and Gracie, special niece, Alice; numerous nieces and nephews and many, many friends.

Friends may call at the Turkey Creek Old Regular Baptist Church 1348 Turkey Creek Road, Turkey Creek, Kentucky 41570 on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, and again on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the NEWCOMER SOUTHWEST CHAPEL 3393 Broadway, Grove City, Ohio 43123, where funeral services will then be held on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at 10:00am. Interment to follow at Alton Cemetery.
