KELLER
William Byron Keller, 85, of Columbus, passed away unexpectedly on June 23,.2010. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 17, 1924, to the late Joseph and Mary (Kerr) Keller.
Bill graduated from Kenton High School in 1943 and joined the Army from 1943 to 1946. In the European Theater of Operations, he served in the 76th Infantry Division, 3rd Army, which spearheaded movement from "The Bulge to Bavaria." He married the love of his life Jerry Biehn Keller, on July 21, 1946, and they spent almost 61 years providing a home full of love for their family. Bill spent the last few years of Jerry's life devoted to her care, until her death April 14, 2007.
He graduated from Ohio Northern University with a degree in Business Administration in 1954 and retired from Nationwide Insurance after 32 years as claims superintendent of material damage. The lived in Toledo, Dayton, and Columbus over his career, and made wonderful, long-lasting friendships.
He started going to Indian Lake, Ohio with family and friends, and purchased and named his cottage "Fawn Island," where the family enjoyed life for 44 more years. He was an OSU football fan, since childhood, and loved to attend the games at "the Shoe."
Surving are daughters Kristine B. Keller-Pawlak (John) of Columbus, Ohio and Charlett L. Barr (George) of Houston; granddaughters Stacey L. Maurer (Tom), Meagen M. Johnson (Marc), and Mindy Bragg, all of Columbus, Catherine Larson (John) of Chicago and Carolyn Barr of Houston and Nicaragua; great-grandchildren Jacob Braskett, McKenzie Bragg, Aiden Fout, Marc Johnson, Anthony Maurer, and Khloe and Keller William Maurer; mother-in-law Thelma Biehn of Kenton, Ohio and Ft. Myers Beach, Fla., sister-in-law Tanyce Lang (William) of Sidney, Ohio; brother-in-law Arden Spitzer (Sandy) of Findlay, Ohio; several nieces and nephews, many friends, and special friend Peg Williams of Kenton.
Also preceding him in death were his brother Jack Keller and sister Betty Osbun (Verle) of Kenton; mother- and father-in-law Amy and Gerald Biehn of Kenton, Ohio; brother-in-law Raymond L. Biehn of Kansas City, Kansas.
God blessed Bill with his wish: When "the time came to go," he wanted to go quickly, playing golf on the back nine. He was with his golfing friends at Shamrock Golf Club, where he played with the "Old Farts" and with the North Columbus Masonic Golf League. He is now with Jerry, again, and at peace.
Bill and Jerry had been members of Church of the Master in Westerville for many years.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 27, 2010, from 2 to 6 PM. A service will be on Monday, June 28, 2010, at 11 AM at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd. with Dr. David Hogg officiating.
Cremation will follow, and there will be graveside service at Grove Cemetery in Kenton, Ohio on July 10, 2010 at 10:30 AM.
