William E. "Pops" Black, 81, of Columbus, passed away Thursday, April 8, 2010 at his residence. He was born July 6, 1928, in Catlettsburg, KY, son of the late Patrick and Lucy Finney Black. William retired from Transport Motor Express with 35 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Helen J. Killian Black; son, Stephen E. (Debra Aljabery) Black of Grove City; daughters, Janet (Bill Kiger) Garnon of Ft. Thomas, KY and Susan J. (Mark R.) Carter of Grove City; grandchildren, Jeremy Fishinger of Beavercreek, CO, Carter Garnon of Hilliard, James Carter of Grove City and Ryan (Mandy) Carter of Grove City; great grandchild, Carly Carter of Grove City; sisters, Karen Meade and Patty Fultz. Visitation will be Saturday, April 10, 2010 from 1:00-4:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home SW Chapel, 3393 Broadway Grove City, with the funeral service beginning at 4:00 PM. William spent his retirement on his labor of love, restoring cars. He was a wonderful, caring man who will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
