March 12, 1928 — May 22, 2021

William "Bill" Gilbert Hoover

William "Bill" Gilbert Hoover passed from this earthly life unexpectedly in the comfort of his home on Saturday, May 22, 2021. In Columbus, Ohio, he was born March 12, 1928, to the late Jake Hoover and Betty Hairston-Hoover. Bill was baptized at an early age under the late R.F Hairston Sr. of the Refuge Baptist Church and attended the Columbus public school system. He learned his trade and perfected his love for masonry within the family business, Jake Hoover and Sons Manhole Builders. Bill later became a self-employed contractor with well-known construction companies throughout the state of Ohio and surrounding areas. He always had a tool of some type in his back pocket, and he was quite the man for maintenance. He demonstrated through his work ethic that hard work does genuinely pay off. Bill continued his employment at Swan's cleaners and his position at Xenos Christian school well after retirement and established a friendship that lasted well over 30 years. He took great pride in keeping things clean and in working order. Bill was dependable and one who could be counted on to be there, ready to go.

Bill was also a professional wrestler under the sponsorship of Al Haft Sports Arena. In addition to his love for fishing, Bill found a great passion for hunting, and if you ever wanted to see him at his best, give him a deck of playing cards.

Bill is predeceased by his parent's five (5) brothers Herbert, Charles, Donald, Paul, and Roy; Two sisters (2) Ellen Hoover- Austin and Dorothea Hoover-Richardson. Bill is survived by three (3) daughters Vernell Smith-Brown, Rhonda Logan, and Juanita Bradley, two (2) sisters, Geraldine Hayes and Bernice Hoover-Davis, a host of grandchildren, a multitude of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, Special nephew Arthur Cromwell, Special friend Trent Freeman, Terrie and "Duckie" Stewart.

A unique, heartfelt thank you to the caring staff of the Heartland Hospice and Nursing Staff for their rapid response and immediate care.
