William Sven Lindberg III was born on March 27, 1945, in Grand Rapids, MI, and departed this life on February 9, 2021, following a brief illness.
After graduation from Western Michigan University, Sven began a six year commitment with the Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA). During this time, he was assigned to work with inner-city gangs in Philadelphia and with the Mescalero Apache Tribe in New Mexico. He then moved to Columbus to work with the Housing and Urban Development's Communities Assistance Program. This program significantly expanded the concept of urban renewal and development. He worked for the State of Ohio until his retirement.
Sven is survived by his wife of 36 years, Karen, his son William Sven (Tiffany) Lindberg IV, daughter Alicia Lindberg, and two granddaughters Addison and Emma.
Sven loved being a dad and built lifelong memories for his family during their many summer trips to Big Bass Lake, Irons, MI. His entire life, he enjoyed spending summers "Up North" and was always eager to share those memories and build new ones. He also had a wicked sense of humor, something that both his son and daughter aspire to match.
It is the family's hope to have a memorial gathering at a later date. In the interim, in lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Bass Lakes Area Environmental Partnership PO Box 174, Irons, MI 49644. This 501c-3 works to preserve the shoreline ecosystems and prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species, allowing families now and into the future to enjoy what our family has for so many years.
