William J. Steece
1953 - 2024
It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of William Jeffery Steece, aka Jeff, aka Buffalo Bill Cody, at age 70 on Friday, March 29, 2024. Jeff was an amazing friend & husband to Kelly Dennison Steece, for 33 years and the proud father of Adrienne K. Steece. He was a loving brother to his sister Ann Edmonds. He was a brother-in-law and an uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, William H. Steece and mother, Harriet A. Steece along with his brother and best friend, Mark S. Steece. Jeff attended West High School, class of 1972. He worked as a journeyman/pressman for the Columbus Dispatch and for Murfin. He retired from Nationwide Children's Hospital in 2019. His lifelong passion was American history and love for the wild west. He was an avid admirer of Buffalo Bill Cody and his Wild West show. He was so enamored with his hero, that he became one of the top Buffalo Bill impersonators in the country. Jeff was also a stickler for wearing authentic outfits as many of you may know. One of the greatest honors in his life was being made an honorary member of the Ohio Cody Family Circle in 2006. He made the trip to Lookout Mountain in Denver Colorado to visit Buffalo Bill's grave with a gentleman friend from England, John Redmond. They had the time of their lives traveling in period clothing. Jeff valued all the relationships he had. He was loving, kind and a man of integrity. Mostly, the funniest man I'd ever met. He was truly one-of-a-kind. A celebration of life is planned for May 5th, 1p-3p at the Sawmill Commons Party House, 2555 Summer Drive, Dublin, OH. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to centerofthewest.org/get-involved, or call 307-578-4008.
