William Edward Thompson, son of Sylvester Thompson Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Thompson, born on March 15th, 1953. He was the third child to this union. He was raised by Papa Tom Taylor in Bridgewater Tenn. while attending High School.
Moving to Chicago in the early 70's, he met and married a lovely lady, Cynthia and her little daughter, Annie.
"If a man don't work, a man don't eat."
William was a Tinker, a man of many talents; he was a dock worker, loading and unloading trucks, a forklift operator, unloading and loading trucks. In his spare time he tinkered on cars, oil changes, tune-ups, brake pads, and a plethora of other things. He'd assess the situation and see what had to be done. "Thanks Will!" we all said.
"Don't thank me, pay me." he'd say.
"Don't bother William's plate," mama made sure everybody understood.
William didn't have any children, but he had plenty of nieces and nephews, so, an Uncle he must be.
The first set of nieces and nephews, had a young Uncle William who took them to the beach, the parks, riding the buses and trains around the city, always returning tired and hungry.
The second set of nieces and nephews, had a mature Uncle William who yelled a lot, "Go there, come here, and just shut the hell up."
The third set of nieces and nephews, had an old man Uncle William who would drive Great Grandma Mary to visit them and each one represented his Best Self.
On January 28th, 2023, William Edward Thompson passed away due to a hard fought struggle with cancer. He will not be forgotten.
